A Different Kind Of Light
A song about that little light we all carry...and an epic journey with Buffalo
Recently I’ve come to terms with the fact songwriting for me, is a slow process. It takes a bit of time to sort through ideas, arrangement, production and especially the lyrics…Sometimes the words just don’t come easy…
A Different Kind Of Light was the same. It took a long time to finally make itself clear. I leaned on Michael Bernard Fitzgerald to keep me on the straight and narrow lyrically and Josh Rob Gwilliam really helped shaped it for me - making sure I pushed forward no matter what. And of course, long time bandmates Peacer and Nate were the rhythm section and those two rule.
The song inspiration came from a conversation with some close friends. The where we were talking about ‘time dilation’. I don’t tell you this to make me look smart, believe me, I was holding on for dear life in the conversation (my mom always said to surround yourself with smart people). An old pal Ben began talking about the possibilities of living forever as light. If we could just come together and point in the same direction we’d get moving with so much energy, momentum…boom… *time stands still*. The more light we have, the faster we go.
Almost like a wheel on a car commercial looks as those it’s going backwards when the car is clearly on going forward… I know just enough to be dangerous…
We’re all beings of light. Traveling through time and colliding into each other. And with each interaction, every moment that share we make a trade, a little of our light, for a little a little of theirs.
‘I carrying you with me, a different kind of light’
That’s what the song is to me.
The title…well that’s a different story and that involves an epic journey with my dog Buffalo and some psyadelics . I’ll save that one for a show though…
